Counties Manukau Police issue Lane Splitting advise after Increase in accidents
Police are concerned with the number of serious incidents involving motorcyclists on our State Highways across the greater Auckland area.
A number of these incidents have been identified as occurring as a result of a practice known as lane splitting – where motorcyclists utilise the gap between lines of traffic to travel during periods of heavy congestion.
All motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions and to look for motorcyclists.
Motorcyclists are reminded that lane splitting should only be conducted at LOW speeds and only if they have 100 metres of clear visibility ahead.
Please stay safe and look out for each other – we want you to make it home to your whanau and loved ones!
