I hope this isn’t one of ours, it looks like a gravel road.

A motorcyclist has been taken to Southland Hospital with serious injuries after crashing his motorbike near Mataura on Wednesday afternoon.

Constable Nathan Wootten said the man was found on the side of the road by a member of the public, who called emergency services at 1.23pm.

There were no witnesses to the crash, which happened at the intersection of McIllwraith and Terrace roads.

“It appears he has failed to take a corner,” Wootten said.

The man’s bike crashed into a post holding up a road side. The impact snapped the post.

Fire trucks from Mataura and Gore attended the crash.

    Police inquiries are continuing.
