A new club in the Waitaki District has had “a huge amount of interest”, already selling 100 tickets to its inaugural Parsons Rock Motorcycle Rally in September.
“We’ve had a massive amount of online interest so far, 7-800 likes, we’ve sold over 100 tickets already so it looks like it’s going to be a popular region for motorcyclists to come to,” Waitaki Recreational and Boating Club member Brent Cowles said.
“Parsons Rock is a council camping ground but it’s right beside the lake and it’s just got a perfect area for the entertainment down one end and up the top a camping area so we just feel that it’s got the perfect layout to be able to bring people together.”
Cowles said they will have the usual food vendors and entertainment that rallies offer but will also have “extra stuff using the lakes for jet boats rides and those sorts of things”.
The club, which launched in April, is designed for everyone interested in motorsports, boating, fishing and diving, and funds raised will go back into the community and community assets.
Brent Cowles said there had been huge interest in the new rally with organisers already selling 100 tickets.
“I’m hoping to bring people to the Waitaki Valley, obviously show off our region and bring the community together.”
The club is hosting a Waitaki Valley Family Car Rally on July 20 and promises a year round calendar of poker runs, fishing competitions, motorcycle rides and rallies, 4×4 trips and dive trips.
The Parsons Rock Motorcycle Rally will be held on September 13 and 14.
Now we need something in late summer in the North Island
