My pick is Darkys Spur Road in Tangoio, Hawkes Bay which is single lane, has steep drop offs and even the odd car wreck at the base of these. This combination did make me stop and think is this what some of the roads in Bolivia would be like.
Where do you reckon the most dangerous road is in the North Island?Attachments:
October 1, 2016 at 1:08 pm #14192My money is on SHW2 heading north from Tauranga. It’s a shocker.
October 1, 2016 at 4:48 pm #14195I second SH2 north of Tauranga to Katikati.
I’ve sorted out and cleaned up more than my fair share of accidents on this road for work.
It looks like a nice road and generally is but it seems to bite you in the ass quick smart.
Lethal piece of road!!October 2, 2016 at 1:45 am #14203Akatawara Rd, sealed, but so narrow that places can’t fit a motorbike and car, and too many drive too quickly…
October 3, 2016 at 10:40 am #14236Anything in Auckland CBD
October 4, 2016 at 8:52 am #14261I would go with the road out to Sutherlands Hut, huge drop offs and only a foot of grass between the track and the drop.
The most dangerous for me however was Pomerangai Road as I had a head on collision with a car on there when I tracked 2 years ago. Both of us were doing about 50km/h but the corners were so tight we didn’t see each other coming until it was too late and there was nowhere to go.

I have been wrong before though.April 11, 2017 at 6:37 pm #17603Im surprised that ive ridden most of these and the term dangerous is replaceable with most fun. Esp Sutherlands and Pomerangi!
Not Akatawara Rd. screw that road.
