Hello all
I have acquired a cheapie 98 DR650 as a runabout while I fix the Freewind. It’s a bit rough but with the help of a friend it’s pulling well with the Mikuni pumper carb that came on it. Anyway, it needs a couple of bits:
– A rear spring that is not made of marshmallow
– OEM exhaust is missing the heatshield
– An indicator lens that isn’t cracked and missing a chunk out of it
– Rear brake light spring (albeit I have borrowed the one off the Freewind for now)It’s also missing a bash plate but I’m planning to knock something up out of an old and damaged road sign that found its way to me. Any tips on how to do so would be good to get.
Thanks – Chasio
PS – First post and already asking for help 🙂 As a counter I am now able to offer a recovery service with trailer and a bed for the night, provided I’m at home…

February 5, 2016 at 9:53 am #11527Hi Eddie
This DR is proving more problematic than expected… if I can’t get it going right I may well part it out. If so I will let you know.
Cheers – Chasio

February 5, 2016 at 10:33 am #11534Currently suffering from complete electrical death. Not the battery or any of the fuses I can find (main fuse plus two nearby). Am off to start disassembling in an bit. Maybe the ignition switch? Will catch up with the assistance pages later on. Cheers
February 11, 2016 at 8:09 pm #11566I have a flash fork brace and two guards for the engine casing, unused, going to a good home should someone want to offer me something….
For a DR650 of course, two nice circular heavy steel guards, shaped to fit perfectly on the DR650….
Shiny fork brace, well made and easy to install, just couldn’t be bothered for both of these items…
So, brand new!Make me an offer and I will ship them for free…..
Cheers
February 12, 2016 at 10:22 am #11583Got a link/pic of the fork brace and how it mounts?
February 12, 2016 at 10:25 am #11584Had any luck? YOu got no power at all, no lights, indicators etc?
I’d guess look for a short somewhere. The main loom where it goes past the headstock between the forks can rub on some bikes, make sure the battery terminals are properly tightened.

I can get it to work sometimes and fuses are all good, so I’m thinking it’s not a short circuit. Could be wrong I guess. Currently soaking it daily with CRC and it has been working OK. Worst case for repair (I think) is a break deep in the harness somewhere. I’ll have another look around the headstock for signs of wear. Cheers 🙂
