Yamaha USA has announced a recall for all 2012-2013 model year Super Tenere XT1200’s due to a potential wiring issue in the connection between the throttle position sensor and the ECU, no other model years are impacted.

The issue is to do with the waterproofness of the connection failing over time and heat cycles which may allow water to seep in and corrode the wires which could alter the electrical resistance properties of the wire and cause the ECU to receive incorrect signal values. The result of this the engine speed may not return to idle when the throttle is closed. Warning signs of a potential issue include difficulty restarting, engine misfires and poor engine performance.

Yamaha USA was notified about the issue by Yamaha Japan after a quality control review of a foreign market model with a similar design. It is unknown whether all market models are affected or only USA and the other ‘foreign market’, where ever that may be.

Dealers will install a new harness which will bypassing the area at risk of corrosion. The new harness lead uses a different style of wire splice hat that is heat resistant.

Saw this elsewhere. Unsure if NZ bikes affected…
