Pori Road is a scenic gravel ride that links the Pahiatua-Pongaroa Road with Route 52. On the Pahiatua-Pongaroa Road side the road starts off sealed before turning to gravel and is the recommended direction to travel the road as you get great views out across the valley once you’ve climbed up the hill.

@Bandit Rider went over Pori Road recently and it has suffered due to recent heavy rain and may be impassable for a while due to slips.

I rode this late afternoon end January and the views out west over Paihiatua and Woodville were stunning! It’s single lane (like the best roads are) and you have to ride around livestock that weight more than you and your bike combined – so take it easy – but’s it’s a must ride and leads to the remote, 4WD only, not maintained by council (let me at it) Puketoi Road which you turn right into.

Just letting you all know went through Pori rd yesterday 07/10 in the hosing down rain and wind and it was still perfectly rideable on worn out 90/10 tyres on the Xcx.Bit slippy in the mud sections but no real dramas.

I travelled this road today as part of my tour of the lighthouses at the four tips of the North Island. I was sent that way because I told my Tomtom I wanted a thrill ride. I have road tires on my Vstrom 1000 and it was wet from recent rain but nothing a little expirance couldn’t handle. A yes I got the hell photo of the view to show the wife

Hope you have ridden the ‘not maintained by council’ Puketoi Road between Pori and Haunui Roads. It’s a must do, if it is not wet and you have reasonable tyre tread!

    Hi Scott…long time no hear!
If you were talking to me, It was very wet down there so nope I didn’t do it. I had enough trouble on the “maintained by council” bits!

In great condition a couple of weeks ago. Nice scenic ride, eminently do-able on my CB500F.
