Like most of the Nelson Lakes region in summer, there are bloody wasps everywhere. Stay zipped up, and visor down! I learned the hard way. For the record, the petrol station in Murchison sells antihistamine…

Had a great ride through there a couple of weeks ago. Lots of stock on the track but awesome little ride!

Rode this recently west to east. Great track in nice condition, very pretty scenery. However: I’d rather have to deal with wasps than tw*ts in lycra on mountain bikes hurtling downhill on the wrong side of the road.
To make matters worse, one actually swerved towards me, and I ended up dropping the bike trying to avoid him. No apology or name given from said local mamil. Got going again with badly twisted ankle, but encountered several more cyclists on the same track playing same stupid tricks. Best advice would be to follow behind a ute!

We drove this in a Jimny in January. One of the best “side cuts” of the 2500k trip.
Cant wait to get back there on my Bush Pig DR.
Start of the road and the lake.
