Porika Road runs just South of SH6 between St Arnaud and Murchison and along with the Braeburn Track makes a much more adventurous, though slower, alt[See the full post at: Porika Road]
Track’s in pretty good nic today (24th October 2015). Wet and slippy as usual on the way up from the East but down to the lake isn’t any more rutty after the long hard winter than normal, none are criss-crossing the track so no need to hop ruts! Took my 800GS across just fine. Beautiful morning for it.
what about going in reverse
I wouldn’t have taken the 800 up from the Western side on my own, just in case, but I would if I hadn’t have been. No idea what the trail’s looking like now but it surely can’t have degraded significantly since October.
Went over the Porika track on Fri 17th Feb 2017. Track was in good condition with very few ruts. Someone has graded sections of it in particular the steeper sections on the Western end. Worth doing while the weather is dry. I think someone has put an unauthorized ‘Road Closed’ sign at the Eastern end, because the track is Open from the other end and there are no obstructions through the whole track.
Thanks Juno. That sign has been there for a few years now.
Have just completed the track 26th January 2019. Fully loaded R1200GS Adventure from east to west. Good track going up and a little loose on the way down. Take you time and picking lines makes for a nice challenging ride.
The road is nice and clean at the moment, rode through on the 6-04-19 from the west to the east. Same bike as previous post.
Rode through early last week track open and easy all the way through. The downhill and the end to the lake was very grippy and posed no dramas.
