Hi, would this be alright two-up (v-strom rental, road tires) or are the sharp steep turns going to make that difficult?
I’d be checking your rental agreement to see if you are allowed to take it off sealed roads for start.
Otherwise that’s a tough call. A lot depends on the current state of the surface, particularly whether the road has been graded recently as that includes laying new material on the road which can make the surface quite deep. If it hasn’t been graded in quite a while then maybe, if it has, then highly unlikely.
A V-Strom could certainly do it easily, a V-Strom 2-up on road tyres I dunno. Some of the up and downhills are pretty long and steep.
After the Kaikoura earthquakes Port Underwood Road is open but care is required due to slips.
This should be cleaned up by now…
Rode this last weekend.Havent riden a bike for 15 years and was smiling all the way on a DR350.Good condition despite a very wet winter here in Marlborough.A few softer patches where the gravel is thin and clay coming through.
Robin Hood Bay. There is a DOC camp right on the foreshore. Not a bad place for the starter motor to shit the bed…
There were 2 camper vans just to the right of the second shot, & a typical DOC composting Loo just to the left…
Rode through 14 April. Beautiful autumn day. Where else in the world do you get roads and scenery like this.
