Old Whangamomona Road runs from Whangamomona village to the ‘Bridge to Somewhere’.
The Old Whangamomona Road track is no longer council maintained and only kept open by the work of the Whangamomona Road Action Group Inc – ( WRAG Inc ) a society specifically set up to keep the road open.
Funding for the maintenance of the Old Whangamomona Road is solely sourced from donations received in a collection box on the counter at the Whangamomona hotel so all riders using this track are strongly encouraged to make a donation to help WRAG keep the road open.
In summer the 17km track is a dustbowl, however any rain at all will turn the track into a slippery slide that you can barely stand up on due to it’s papa clay base.
Tracks conditions can change weekly and this is definately not a track to ride solo. You should only be attempted on a large bike by a experienced and confident rider with assistance.
