Hailes Road heads south from Whananaki North Road and is the route to take if you want to drive between Whananaki North and South instead walking over the estuary footbridge. This means look out for parents doing the school run around 8am and 4pm.
The road is narrow and very bare in places and would be slippery in the wet, it also has lots of corrugations. Watch out for wandering stock as the local fencing has more holes than a pair of fishnet tights.
At the intersection with Whananaki South Road most will turn right and head for the Tutukaka coast road. Whananaki South is generally nice and wide and was freshly graded and metalled Feb 19 2019. A picturesque road with lots of different sections, by the creek, through trees, over saddles. A very enjoyable ride.
