A typical South Island gravel road, Mt Aspiring Road takes in the sights of Lake Wanaka before heading inland to the start of the Rob Roy Glacier walking trail. The road is sealed as you skirt the edge of Lake Wanaka and turns inland but changes to gravel when you reach the turn off for Treble Cone skifield.
In usual South Island fashion the views are incredible. One you are in the gravel section there are a few small fords to cross but these should be fairly easily navigable by most riders, though if there has been recent bad weather the bottom of the crossing could contain larger rocks, if you are uncertain get off your bike and have a look first.
