Algidus Road, near Double Hill Run Road, travels up the western side of Lake Coleridge and the eastern side of the Rakaia River, ending in the Rakaia River. It’s possible that it goes further, but this hasn’t been explored.
The road is well graded with occasional narrower sections and several streams crossing the road that are usaully no more than a bike length across. Nearing the end of the road it had a similar level to the river so was semi-flooded before exiting on the stony banks.
The terrain and views along Algidus Road and in the Lake Coleridge area really give a sense of being out in the wild and miles from anywhere.
The GPS track download includes Coleridge Intake Road which takes you from Algidus Road to a rest area beside Lake Coleridge.
