Running East to West between Coalfields Road and Kopuku Road, Finlayson is short but has the most variation of any of the gravel roads in this area. There is a large active quarry and a trucking firm located along Finlayson Road so big trucks regularly use the road.

Finlayson Road is not far from Ferndale Road for a longer ride.

While there is a quarry very close, the name has change several times in recent years, originally Balwins later bought by Higgins and then once Higgins was Acquired by Fletcher group is now Run under the Winston Monical.
The activities on Finlason road is a open cast Coal mine, there is the remenance of another that is now a man made lake at the eastern end where it meets Kopuku Road. If you continue up coal fields road instead of taking the turn onto Finlason you will see another working coal mine. Finlason while short is a fun road, well worth exploring while in the area, there are other event held in the Maramarua forestry organized by a commercial motorcycles tour compatible that some maybe interested in.
