Hikumutu Road is accessed via Kawautahi Road just a few hundred metres South of Owhango on SH4, and comes out in Taumaranui over the bridge behind the Taumaranui Domain.
The southern end of Hikumutu road is quite windy and undulating with quite a few tight corners shrouded by trees growing over the road, whereas the northern end is fairly flat and more open. Where the trees grow over the road there can be deep piles of leaves that can be slippery if it has been damp, especially on the insides of corners.

Hikumutu Road is quite pleasant to ride and makes a nice distraction from travelling SH4.
