Only the 7km from the West end of Honikiwi Road is gravel however the entire road is an enjoyable ride. Running off SH39 from just North of Otorohanga, Honikiwi Road takes you through to Kaimango Road.
The gravel section of Honikiwi Road generally has a good firm surface however it could be slippery when wet. There are a few sharp steep corners which as long as riders take care and are confident braking down hill on gravel should be fine.
Did the top end of Kaimango Rd into Honikiwi on Friday 29/03/24. Weather wasn’t great but the ride was fantastic, pretty narrow and very happy I didn’t come across any other traffic.
