Junction Road is 15km of gravel connecting Tarata Road and The Forgotten Highway (SH43). Starting just after the Ngatoto Road intersection near Purangi, the road crosses the Waitara River bridge and continues on through the small settlement of Matau. The road then joins the SH43 at the summit of the Pohokura Saddle, 16km West of Whangamomona.

Junction Road can get busy with large trucks in mid January during the Matau Annual Ewe & Lamb Fair at the Matau Saleyards and farm traffic could be encountered at any time.
