More than pretty nice. This is one of the better off the beaten track gravel road rides in North Auckland. One of my favourites. And if you are in to tramping, bush and great views try walking the 90 minute track up to the viewing platform on top of Mount Auckland – for an amazing outlook over the Kaipara Harbour. I had a great ride along the Kaipara Hills Road on 24 July 2021. Road surface is mostly well-maintained gravel with a few muddy bits. Will suit a novice trail rider, like me.
Here’s another one in the same area we did last weekend. This is my first post so not sure if this is the right place to put it..
Some really nice roads from Waitoki just nth of Auckland through the Kaipara interior then out to Matakana for a coffee, over the Pakiri Hills to Forestry Beach or Te Arai. Both really nice beaches. Inside the Auckland Covid border too, just, if you’re looking for a lockdown ride.
Hmm, looks like I can’t upload gpx files here. Have it available if anyone needs. Also another heading out to the little known Bird’s Beach, also within the Auckland boundary and some really neat roads.
Rode this today, 04-Aug-24, road was dry with very loose gravel. Take note that this road is used for rally events, by chance I was let through the course, making probably the worst stage time. It might be worth checking if there are events planned in future in case you are asked to turn back.
