In the hills East of Taihape lies Kotukuraeroa Road, essentially a formed farm track. Depending on recent use and weather it can be relatively smooth from farm vehicle use in dry weather through to torn up and rutted if cows have been moved through while the ground was wet.
Kotukuraeroa Road is usually only passable in summer or after a long dry spell as the landscape in the middle untracked section consists of dips and hollows that flood after any decent rain to depths not passable by vehicles, this combined with long grass offers no traction.
At such times the farmer whose land Kotukuraeroa Road crosses understandably temporarily fences off the flooded section. If you do attempt Kotukuraeroa Road and find it fenced off due to flooding please respect this and do not attempt to cross the track. This is for your own safety as much as managing the track and ensuring it remains passable by all vehicles.

Bart’s nemesis road. Take him there on a bike & he’s bound to drop it & break some levers…
Does anyone have a GPS track of Kotukuraeroa Rd?
@Box.a.Bits?
Nope, sorry. Ridden it, but don’t have a track for it.
I can only give you the pieces at either end, and they’re in the open source maps (about 1.5-2km missing in the middle)
If you’ve got those tracked send it through. I’ve been halfway along it but before I started tracking stuff.
Rode Kotukuraeroa Road today with a pillion and luggage one section in the middle was a bit boggy but otherwise a really nice route maybe not for beginners and would be a lot more challenging in the wet. I have attached my tracklog including a small deviation
