Mangaoapa Road (not to be confused with Mangapapa Rd to the east) assuming traveling north to south is accessed off Junction Road. As Mangaoapa Road winds down from Junction there is some corrugations on the corners, but otherwise its smooth, although there is larger grade gravel on the centreline. It’s width narrows as it goes through the forest but was quite picturesque, well as far as pine trees can be.
The highlight for this road would be the Kiore tunnel near it’s southern end. This was excavated in 1910 and gave residents access to the Stratford area. It’s one of the longer tunnels in the Taranaki area and has had no widening or lowering modifications.
