Molesworth Station has it’s upper end in the Awatere Valley just South of Blenheim and at it’s lower end the spa town of Hanmer Springs. Molesworth Station is only open over the summer months and dates can vary each year, so it pays to check whether the road is open via the DOC website, the road can also be closed at any time due to adverse weather, slips, or other reasons. This is considered a must do track especially for riders from the North Island due to it’s scenery and large open areas that North Island tracks
Conditions can reach extremes in the Molesworth Station area so riders should be prepared to be self sufficient, there is no mobile coverage over the 140km road, no fuel and no assistance for mechanical breakdowns etc. In mid summer temperatures can easily reach the high 30’s so riders should ensure they have adequate water and food to maintain energy levels. Road conditions are usually smooth to bumpy but due to the length of the road, the weather conditions and isolation we recommend learner riders do not attempt the road without adequate support.
