Mt Rochfort rises about the Denniston Plateau and is a 20km return trip from Denniston. From the top of Mt Rochfort there are spectacular views over Westport, the West Coast, & the Buller River valley (on a clear day at least).

Access to the start of the track is from Westport, or the ride could be coupled with the Denniston Track. The Mt Rochfort track starts at the historic Denniston township & mine brakehead.

At of May 2015, the track has been freshly upgraded, so is a relatively easy & straightforward ride (albeit steep in places). However it has previously been rough, with a number of rocky steps to negotiate. Be aware that the track may revert to this condition.

Because the Denniston Plateau is being assessed for coal mining you can expect to encounter 4WD traffic in that vicinity. In addition to this there is traffic resulting from a number of mountain biking & hiking tracks, & historical sites in the area.
