Ohakune Domain is about 3km out of Ohakune on Lakes Road. From the centre of Ohakune turn southwest onto the Raetihi-Ohakune road beside the petrol station, Lakes Road is 2km on the left and once on Lakes Road the Ohakune Domain is 1km on the right. While the entrance to the domain is signposted it is surrounded by trees and often not easy to see until you are very close to it.
The Ohakune Domain is a rutted single vehicle track that circles a small lake. The first hundred metres or so is 2 way then the track splits and you veer left where the track beomces one way and you circle the lake in a clockwise direction. About 1/3 of the way around the lake there is a small carpark where you can see the lake itself, otherwise the track is surrounded by bush on both sides.
The track surface is firm in summer but can be muddy in winter. It’s always potholed and riders should be cautious of tree roots. Otherwise it’s gentle little track that should provide a small amount of adventure for new adventure riders yet is still a pleasant side track for more experienced riders.
Ratamaire Road is only a stones through away so the 2 tracks can be joined for loop back to Ohakune.
