Accessed from Otara Road in Opotiki, Pakhiri Road takes you along the river valley of the Otara River. This is a one way in, one way out road but it’s a cruisy and very scenic 10km ride each way as it meanders along with the river.
At the end of the Road walking tracks head into the hills which join up with the The Motu Road, along with a long drop toilet.
Hmm, it was sounding promising, until you mentioned fire, I looked it up on Doc site: href=”https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/east-coast/places/urutawa-conservation-area/things-to-do/boulders-campsite/ and it says NO FIRES. Bugga, that knocks it off the winter list. But i will consider it for a summer camp. Could always borrow A MR Heater Buddy and take that in a pannier LOL. Looks like it’ll be another Waikaremoana midwinter camp for me in a few weeks then. And yes there will always be port.
Hi Eddie
Have you got any more pics of the campsite?
Cheers mate and thanks for running a great site!

Hey Mark Armstrong (and Eddie) , Do you want to do a winter meetup and camp at Boulders one weekend soon??
Cheers Col
Sounds like a good plan Cap’n. Assuming we can light a fire and down some port…
