Nestled in the hills of Richmond Downs West of Matamata, Piakonui Road is 9km of twisty single lane gravel with 1km or so of seal at each end. It’s location is ideal if you only have time for a short ride out from Hamilton, Morrinsville or Matamata, or are looking for somewhere for a newer adv rider to get some gravel time and the sealed roads in this area are also fun to ride.
This is prime Waikato diary farming area so at any time you could come across farm traffic like tractors, livestock, milk tankers and other vehicles on this road.
Many of the corners on Piakonui Road are blind so ensure you stick to your side of the road
