Ranginui Road is a sweet little country backroad West of Mangakino. From SH30 the South end is smooth and flowing as it skirts the north block of Pureora Forest. The southern half of the road is sparse and quiet but the northern half of the road has a number of farms so expect farm traffic there. At the highest point of Ranginui Road are stunning views over rolling farmland to the North.
The southern end of Ranginui Road is a great road for beginners with a solid base and very little gravel when we travelled it.
Track type: Gravel road Track composition: Smooth, Firm, Undulating Slippery when wet?: No Suitable for bikes <650cc? Beginner Suitable for bikes >650cc? Beginner River crossings? No
Those last two photos are of ranginui road going past my farm. Today a large number of riders went through. I met one passing another on a corner. Many were taking corners like it was one way traffic only. Its not your racetrack. Its our access to our homes. And we use it to move stock. We pay large rates for its upkeep. Please respect our road.
That’s disappointing, sorry to hear this happened. How many riders were in the group and what were they riding? It may have been an organised ride and directing your concerns to the event may have more impact, although I did a quick search and haven’t found any events held on that date.
I hope you don’t paint all riders with the same brush. A lot are courteous of the locals and the roads, and I, myself will slow past houses to pose less of a dust nuisance.
It always pays to be cautious on this road as it is narrow, particularly the southern section. On more than one occasion I have met trucks that didn’t give an inch or drop their speed.
