Okahukura Peninsula, of which Tapora is the settlement (and what it’s commonly known as) stretches out into the middle of the Kaipara harbour. As with it’s location it’s usually a quiet place and the elevations can lend to some nice views of the harbour on a sunny day. From the Burma Road turn off everything is gravel, with each road offering something different. Burma Road being worn down but smooth and windy with elevation changes, Okahukura Road being a road of mainly straight sections but having deeper gravel and lastly Run road being very wide for a gravel road.
All these link together and make a good ride particularly for a beginner honing their skills. The road end to Birds Beach/Journey’s End may be worth a look (picnic area, boat ramp and toilets) and particularly Manukapua Island for those who like riding sand. There is also a nice lookout point on the Tarseal section of Run road before this track starts.
