The Sand Pit is an offroad motorcycle park situated in the Woodhill forest and is found by following Rimmer Road off SH16 or taking Rimmer Road exit from Muriwai Beach. With 150km+ of trails ranging from Forestry roads (Green/Yellow), Weekly Graded Tracks (Green/Yellow), Enduro Single Track (blue) and Gnarlier Single Track (Red.) There is plenty to explore and easy to enjoy an entire day here. While predominantly the park is targeted at dirt bikes, it can be a good place to practice and build skills to transfer to adventure riding, be it gravel, sand or dirt.
Entry is $40, Open 9-5pm Wed-Sun. As tracks are sand based during or after rain will make for a more enjoyable experience and good, predominantly off road tires is a must especially if using a larger bike and a buddy to help push if it’s the latter.

Went out there yesterday and had a great day out. The main trails (Yellow/Green,) had some loose soft sand even though it’s mid winter. Although this was still manageable on a road going DRZ with Knobbies. Also the price is now $40.
