Upper Mangaehu Road is a 25 km gravel road connecting Aotuhia Station (Bridge to Somewhere, and the often challenging Old Whangamomona Road dirt road) to the settlement of Makahu.

Where the Old Whangamomona Road dirt road section finishes at the last farm gate the gravel starts. The Bridge to Somewhere, which spans over the Whangamomona River, is only a very short ride away and worth a photo opportunity. Heading in roughly a south-west direction the road winds its way through the bush and over a saddle before descending into farmland. At the Makahu junction, the tar sealed Brewer Road leads to Strathmore where it joins The Forgotten Highway, SH 43.

Be aware of suicidal wild pigs, goats, and escaped sheep.
