Another track west of Hamilton, this one connects in with Old Mountain Road and the two of them make a good loop if you’ve just got a few hours spare for a quick local ride.
Waitetuna Valley Road is 50/50 seal/gravel, some of the sealed sections are quite tight and twisty but the gravel sections are mostly pretty wide and open. The gravel section runs over a hill which can offer some nice valley views on a good day, or as on the day I went over low cloud and not much view at all. There is a quarry part way over the hill which means during the week Waitetuna Valley can get a bit of large sized traffic, it also means most of the corners on the gravel section are very heavily corrugated.
Near the southern end the road changes name, so from the South Waitetuna Valley Road actually starts off as Fillery Road.

Took my son on this road for metal experience after completing the Old Mountain Road ride.

Waitetuna Valley Road was in good condition tonight, the sun setting at the top gave everything a golden glow.
No river crossings but…
this big puddle showed up and stopped me in my tracks. The RE took a big lungful of water. too fast on entry. live and learn 🙂
