Waiti Road runs North from Ohiniwai-Tahuna Road just West of Tahuna to near Patetonga on SH27. This track is best ridden South to North as the scenery is best seen when traveling in that direction. On the way up from the South end the road is narrow and windy and heavily wooded with trees arching across the road however once you reach the summit there are views over the Hauraki Plains which continue as you wind down the North side of the hills. Some of the corners can be quite sharp and a bit corrugated as you head up the hill but there’s nothing sever, from the summit heading North the first km or so is sealed but after that the gravel starts again however the road here is much wider and more open.
As Waiti road is lightly trafficked and has a very good gravel surface this is suitable for beginner adventure riders, though they may find it mentally challenging and exhausting due to the amount of corners and the lack of upcoming visibility.
At it’s East end Waiti Road joins Old Hill Road, which when also combined with Ohiniwai Road makes a great loop.
