The Whangara Loop is 20km loop made up of several joining roads halfway between Gisborne and Tolaga Bay. The loop is made up of 50% narrow single lane seal and 50% gravel as it passes through farmland, with one section bordered by cattle stops and containing free roaming cattle.

Once a rally circuit, the track is very windy and gets hilly and rougher around the halfway mark with quite a few potholes. To extend your ride there are 3 other dead end gravel roads that come off the loop, which while dead ends are fairly scenic with rolling hills, farmland, and scattered bush.

The gravel sections of this track are well packed, but in the wet they could be quite slippery.
