35km from Napier is the junction of Puketitiri Road and Whittle Road which is the starting point for accessing the Kaweka Forest Park. Along the way Whittle Road changes name to Kaweka Road and the track morphs from good gravel into a typical New Zealand forest road. Easy riding for a beginner.
The return trip is about 24km, about 8km in on the climb uphill it is worth turning right at the junction and having a stop at the quarry about 800m along the road for some great photos of the Puketitiri Valley.
On the way back from the quarry there is some great vantage points overlooking the Kaweka Forest Park and Mt Kaweka, the high point in the park.
