Overnight Lake Waikaremoana and Raupanga Ride

This is an overnight ride that James and I have planned out. That can be done as an overnighter, or as a 1 day ride, where people can join us to the lake, and then go home from there if they wish, some of us will be camping at the Mokau Landing campsite. So everyone who plans to to come to the campsite, Please bring a load of wood (we found the bunnings “SAMBA” wood packs are only about 4kg and easy to pack, and burn really well) If everyone brings a wood pack each, the fire will burn for several hours.
DAY 1 we will leave form Gisborne at the Makaraka Caltex at 8am. and head on main road to Raupanga. We should arrive at Raupanga by 10am, So anyone from Napier or Rotorua way, can meet us there if they wish, (if so, make sure to let us know, so we know to wait at the Raupanga turnoff onto Putere Rd).
We will proceed along Putere Road and visit the Lakes up there, and then do Waihi rd Out to Lake rd, then hang a left towards Lake Waikaremoana, we will stop at home bay for fuel and a feed, and anyone staying in the cabins can set up their gear. The tenters (and any cabin dwellers who want to come to the campsite) will then head to Mokau Landing campsite. We will set up the tents, and maybe have a fish for some trout. and get the fire going for the evening banter.
DAY 2 – We will leave the Mokau campsite in the morning, and team up with the cabin dwellers, (Rotorua guys can head off through Murapara way if the wish and head home) then head towards Frasertown and hang a right onto Ruapapa Rd, down to Putere and then onto Cricklewood road and come out onto the state highway just south of Wairoa, then upto Cafe 287 for lunch, And ride home from there is negotiable and can be discussed over lunch, the basic intention is to head home on the Tiniroto road, But we can change plans or add in the Parakanapa rd or Donneraile Park, or whatever people want to do. PLEASE HIT THE “GOING” Button so we know who is coming. We look forward to the journey and hopefully see some new faces.

Below is the plan for Day 2 ride

another thought, Bay of plenty riders could always just come from that side and meet up at the mokau landing campsite, and enjoy an evening with fellow enthusiasts, Any excuse for a ride, has to be better than being stuck at home looking at your bike in the shed.
And Hawkes Bay riders could meet us at Raupanga and ride with us through the Putere road upto the lake.

Short notice Tilman, but if you want to camp at lake, we should be there about 2-3pm Cheers bud.

UPDATE – Since there will be rain for this trip, we have added in a backup plan. And it is very likely that Plan B will be used>
PLAN B – we can stay at homebay, if conditions aren’t to bad we can still use our tents, If the rain is worse than would be ideal for a tent, then we can use the bunkhouse or cabins at the homebay camp. The campsite has hot showers covered cooking area and all other facilities. We will decide where we stay, once we get to homebay, and make our decision based on the conditions at the time. If we stay at homebay, we can unload all our gear, and still visit some of the scenic sights and falls etc.
James and I will still take our wood packs incase, but the rest of you don’t need to, as it is unlikely that we will be having an open fire.
