It’s summer bike camping season and as part of that many of us like to light a camp fire to cook over and/or enjoy a few end of day beers around. However also being the hottest part of the year many areas around New Zealand have fire bans in place due to the increased fire risk.
The Can I light a fire? section of the Fire Emergency New Zealand Check its Alright website shows what areas you can and can’t light a fire at a chosen time.
From the link above search for where you want to light the fire and on the next screen choose the date. The screen will update with the weather forecast and details about fires, either directly or links to relevant sources like the DOC website if the location you entered is within DOC land.
