Has anyone ridden Cape York?
I’m doing some research at the moment on tour companies, costs, and the best time of year to do it on a fly in, ride a supplied bike, fly out basis.
http://www.australianexplorer.com/cape_york_peninsula.htm says:
Cape York has two seasons, the Dry Season and the Wet Season. The “Dry” Season is between May and November. The “Wet” Season is between November and April.
Although thunderstorms and monsoons are common during the wet season, the period between December and April is also known as the “Green” Season. The best time to visit the Cape is in the Dry Season ….. after rain the roads are generally impassible.
For tour groups and costs so far I’ve found:
http://www.capeyorkmotorcycles.com.au/ – $5545AU All inclusive 8 day tour including flight back to Cairns
http://outbackadventuretreks.com.au/ – $4750AUAll inclusive 7 day Tour including flight back to Cairns
http://www.fairdinkumbiketours.com.au/ – $5550AU All inclusive 8 day tour including flight back to Cairns, non riders for $1850AU
http://www.trailbikeadventure.com.au/ – $5450AU doesn’t say how long
http://amcr.com.au/cape_york_tours.htm – $$4990AU – All inclusive 8 day tour including flight back to Cairns, risk of extra charges if cheap return flight seats are all booked out. Special for 10 September trip $3990
A random Air NZ flight search for the beginning of September came back with cheaper than expected flights of $350 to $450 each way, but I don’t know if there was a reason for that.
