This bike has a load of history. It was Mike Hydes aka Twisting throttle fame.
It looks great, has all the bells and whistles on it and comes with a truck load of spares if required.
The aim is to hitch a ride to AKL, then fly down the CHC, camp out at Mikes foe the night and ride it home.
I am undecided whether to ride it straight home and then play in the north or spend a few days down south, playing on the way home. It is a no brainer really 🙂
The thing is, I have to put the kids’ into kennels and think about the cost there…
So, still debating this and will work on a route home in the next few days.
I plan on camping, sleeping for free if possible, eating on the cheap, well free actually. I have gained a few Subway vouchers ($150) worth and plan on buying and putting them into the Givi case insulated by a PVC pipe of a relevant diameter so the foot longs don’t get squashed!

The ride home will give me time to acquaint myself with the bike and by the time I have crossed the Nevis or the Dunstan and the Lees valley, I will either love her, hate her or just make sure she stays on tar seal and gravel only. 🙂

Weird I’ve never noticed that before, I’ll have to have a look and see where that time comes from.
I found it, the site time hadn’t updated for daylight saving.
If you’d left her down there till the beginning of Feb I could have flown down for Bannockburn bike week, rode her for a week then rode back up here 😉

Flying down on the 7th January to get the bike. I will be riding it home either the long way round or the short…Either way, the Molesworth and Port Underwood will be options. Have to get home because of the kids, cannot afford the exorbitant kennel costs at this time of the year. I will then do an oil change, day rides and get used to the behemoth!
