Hi,
Roland here, from Vancouver, BC. I have an Aprilia Tuareg that I use as my year-round daily rider here on the Wet Coast of Canada, in addition to as many 3-4 day moto camping trips as I can get away with.
I’m visiting New Zealand in November 2024, and I was delighted to find this site. I’m hoping to soak up the vibes, get some bike rental and destination recommendations, and learn from the local experts.
My profile pics are from a recent 3-day, 730 km ride from Vancouver up the Sea To Sky highway then onto FSR’s (forest service roads). Highlights from this trip included riding through last year’s wildfire burn scar on the Highline, surprising a bear on the Sloquet Hot Springs road, and lots of type 2 fun (rain, cold, mud) on the last day down the west side of Harrison Lake. Here’s our route, if you’re interested – https://maps.app.goo.gl/21eWoHMt4SiR1LV58.
Thanks for having me,
Roland

Hi Roland, wellcome and i’m sure you will find NZ an enjoyable place to ride! Not sure on what is around with around re: rentals but I think most dealerships offer them and there are a few rental companies knocking about. Engaging the Facebook page might get some helpful suggestions. How long are you planning to visit? Buying on arrival and selling at the end is also and option too.
As far as the scenery goes, the South Island is better and they have some very cool trails down there and more motorcycle accessible DOC huts. Not withstanding though, there is plenty of good gravel in the North Island too with a few trails dotted around the place.
Canada looks to be a nice place to explore!
