Maximum width of a Motorcycle now 1.1 metres

I’m not sure how many of you know this, but the width of a motorcycle, including attachments, until recently could only be one metre. (500mm either side of the longitudinal centre line).

On behalf of the NZ motorcycle distributors, over the course of the last 18 months I sought and obtained an increase on this limit. I wanted more but the limit is now 1.1m (550mm either side of the longitudinal centre line).
The vehicle dimensions and mass Rule change came into effect on 1Dec. That means those riding the AT (or any bike for that matter) where the width of the bike with (OEM) panniers fitted exceeds 1m you are now legal.

Cheers…

David

This is good to know. I see the NZTA hasn’t updated their website to reflect the changes yet.
