Mike Hyde – Mr Twisting Throttle & TT2000 passes away

Mike Hyde, author of the excellent Twisting Throttle range of motorcycle books and route organiser of the TT2000 rally has passed away.

An obituary for Mike has been published:

HYDE, Michael Kenneth (Mike):
On August 3, 2015, following a short illness, aged 58 years. Dearly loved by his wife Sandra and adored by his children Robert and Sophie. Mike leaves a huge gap in our lives but we treasure wonderful memories of his wit, humour and the exciting adventures we shared. We extend our sincere thanks to all those involved in Mike’s care.
There were many of you and you all showed the utmost in skill, kindness and support for which we will always be grateful.
Special mention to the following: Omarama Volunteer Fire Brigade; Otago Rescue Helicopter; St John Ambulance; Dunedin Public Hospital; Burwood Hospital BIRS Unit; Christchurch Public Hospital; and Ngaio Marsh Retirement Village – End of Life Care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to “Aphasia NZ Charitable Trust” would be much appreciated and may be made at the service.

Mike’s funeral service will be held in the Lamb & Hayward Westpark Chapel, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, on Friday, August 7, at 2.00pm, followed by a private cremation.

That is really sad. We will be paying tribute to Mike when when use his book for parts of our trip to the South Island next year. Just goes to prove that you have to “twist that throttle” whenever you can, do not put it off.Life can be too short.

He was a great guy. Traded a few emails with him sharing my views and advice when he was dealing with police around the TT2000.

He really loved riding and getting other riders into exploring the countryside and world… Sucks that it’s always the good ones that are taken too soon 🙁
