Open-road speed limits could increase to 110kmh on some roads by the end of next year.
The change has long been pushed for by the Automobile Association (AA) and now New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) confirmed it was close to a change in the rules.
NZTA spokesman Andy Knackstedt said any change to the speed limits rule would likely be progressed next year, so it would be closer to the end of 2015 before that rule change could be introduced.
“It is possible that some of the newest, safest, five-star roads could be suitable for speed limits higher than 100kmh. /blockquote>
