Mangatarere Valley in Masterton. 400mm deep pine needles full of rocks and 75 degrees. (out of my depth). I went up here years ago with my dr200 and difficult but you could see the terrain.
This time the pine needles had covered the rocks and there were more rocks.
I found that once you face that incline – there’s no going back – so I found
myself just going up and up. I came off at least six times. This was not the trail
for someone on their own or someone of my 51yrs age and inexperience – but that’s why it was an adventure I guess.
The view at the top was quite nice.
here are some more pictures – Sorry mucked up the first lot – .
This trip was on my drz400 and was foolhardy and memorable.
I went through gorse that scratched the plastics on my new
bike. I knew what was on the other side as I’d been there
before.
I won’t be doing this trip ever again so it’s nice to be able to record it
here.
I think you should round up a couple of other local riders and give it another crack, and take a gps to track it 😉
Ok good idea
Man have times changed. We used to take my old Cortina up to the road end and then tramp in to Sayers hut and do a bit of hunting around Totara flats. From memory there used to be a fairly flash private lodge up there
