Hi All,

I wondering if you are allowed to ride next to a railway in north Auckland. Google Maps

From https://www.kiwirail.co.nz/communities/living-by-the-rail-network/trespass/

The track and the land surrounding the tracks is called the rail corridor. Unless you have a valid permit to be in the rail corridor you are trespassing and putting your life in danger.

The only legal and safe place to cross tracks is at a properly marked crossing.

  • All railway tracks and bridges are private property
  • Anyone walking along or crossing tracks, not at a proper crossing, is committing an offence and can be prosecuted
  • The maximum fine is $10,000.

On a side note, There is an ULR (Paper road/legal access) from Rauner end up the hill and connecting to Tunnel Road. This is Unfeasible via Motrocycle to access from Rauner as fence lines run across it and is forested. Also when I was at Tunnel Road end it had an ambiguous “Tresspassers will be Prosecuted” sign at the gate of end of formed road, however ULR does indeed extend past the gate.
