Tirau has it’s giant sheep, Ohakune it’s giant carrot, Auckland has……well I guess it’s giant coat hanger harbour bridge.
All over New Zealand there are giant icons to represent something about the local area. Post a pic of your bike in front of our local icons.
I’l start with 2 I went past yesterday, one I already knew about the other I didn’t.
Otorohanga is famous for it’s Kiwi house so why not a giant kiwi?
The second one is in Kihikihi and I have driven past many times and never noticed before, it’s not that big really but compared to what it’s modelled off it’s huge.
A few 100 metres south of the turnoff to Waitomo Caves on SH3 is the giant apple.
Tuakau, and a couple of beach icons.
I found another one yesterday that I’d stopped 50 metres away from many times and never seen it around the corner from the Te Poi cafe on SH29.
Stuff have published an article today regarding these local icons all over NZ.

They also published a similiar article in December 2015 with a few different ones.

I reckon they’ve missed a few though. If you live near one of these icons get a bike of your bike in front of it and post it up!
Arthur’s Pass
I was in Kaiaua yesterday which is a big area for ‘shorebirds’, birds that live along our coastline, so Kaiaua has a giant Oyster catcher.
It turns out Otorohanga has a giant Kiwi at the North End of town also.
Weather was beautiful so I went out for a ride, stopped in town to snap a shot of our huge cow.
Was a beautiful day so went for a ride a bout. 🙂
Out for a ride today and saw the giant cow @MarkH posted above.
Just up the road is the Tatua Diary Factory with it’s giant can of Diary Whip.
10 of the 15 or so Taranaki tunnels. They’re giant landmarks/Icons right?

This one after a ride into the city.
Te Puke is apparently the Kiwifruit Capital of the World.
This is a medium sized Kiwifruit in town, there’s a massive one a few KM out the South side of town.
