In any retail sector, the hot product one year is sometimes old news the next. A change is sweeping through the road bike market: sportsbikes are being supplanted by sport-tourers, adventure bikes, cruisers and even some streetfighter nakeds and select supermotos.
Folk no longer seem to be buying pure sportsbikes in big numbers. That’s not to say they have given up on them altogether. The S 1000 RR is doing good business for BMW Motorrad but globally its R1200 GS adventure bike is its runaway bestseller.
The burgeoning size of the adventure bike class gives some clue as to the popularity of the sector.
