I am still planning my trip to NZ later this year, I must admit I was surprised to hear from some companies that do off road tours that they have nothing planned or are already full for November or December, looks like it will be buy a bike and go solo not my ideal situation as a off road novice, or just do a road trip.

There is so much riding to do in NZ, particularly in the South Island. A lot of the tours are very expensive and you may get better value for money hooking up with local riders for doing gravel/off road.
Think I will end up buying a bike and leaving it in NZ between trips, I can leave the bike with people I know near Gore

If you can afford to do that it’s a great idea. There’s some pretty good riding within 100km of Gore too.
