Kawasaki KLE 500 – Dakar style

I’ve never ridden one but I’ve always thought that on paper at least the KLE500 seemed to be quite an underrated bike. The 500cc 8 valve parallel twin sourced from the GPZ500 keeps it in the cheaper Registration fee range, but it’s 45hp power output is 3hp above it’s more popular single cylinder cousin the KLR650, with weight 4kg more than the KLR, and they are usually very cheap.

A couple of guys in the Czech Republic thought so too and took 2 KLE 500’s and made them into Dakar Rallye replica’s, and did a pretty good job!

There’s a gallery of build pics on the original article showing the nav tower and fairings being made. As the original page is in Czech this link will take you to a Google translated version, the english is a bit erratic.
