Images of the PR7 from Portugese manufacturer AJP have been floating around the internet for a little while now, but the bike is now coming at least to Austraila at the end of 2015, will we get it in NZ?
Using the Yamaha Tenere (Minarelli) 660 motor wrapped in a AJP’s tasty own body and suspension package the AJP PR7 has a claimed weight of less than 155kg dry while being able to carry 17 litres of fuel which should give a perfect range for Adventure / Dual Sport riding in New Zealand.
The Australian AJP website is at: http://www.ajpaustralia.com.au/
Specs
•Mikuni EFI
•Well recognised and highly regarded Minarelli 660cc single cylinder, liquid cooled, engine
•Fully adjustable Marzocchi 48mm forks, 300mm of travel
•Fully adjustable Ohlins shock with 280mm of travel
•Less than 155kg dry weight
•21 inch and 18 inch wheel set
•17 litre under seat fuel cell for low weight distribution
•Doma high performance pipe
Looks damn good and there is a lot of talk about this bike on ADV. Will be interesting to see if it makes it to NZ.
Like anything, the smaller manufacturers make bloody awesome bikes! Sherco, Beta, aprilia etc etc….
BUT….
Seems we are too far away and even if you get your hands on one of these beauties….
As far as after sales service goes….
Nada! That is the problem….
There’s an AJP dealer in Darfield, Canterbury. The real question is do kiwi’s have 18,000nzd to spend on the bike new. It’s worth it when comparing to KTM 690e, Husky 701 (if they do an enduro version), and the CCM gp450.
Who is that and is he stocking the P7?
So, this might be my next bike. (And not only because I’m Portuguese)
I contacted the AJP Guys, and the Importer is actua;y in South Auckland.
There is no Stock for PR7 because the bike is still in prototype.
And the guys says that although they have some P5’s it is unlikely they will order some PR7 if they only see 1 or 2 possible sales. :S
New updates on the PR7

There’s are a few AJP dealers in New Zealand, if you want to see the PR7 here these are the people you want to [s]hassle[/s] … talk to.
This update is interesting…but at 18,000nzd (if that’s the out the door price) is more than the 701Enduro which has more available parts and service support. It’s an interesting concept and I’d be keen to see one. I don’t buy bikes in this price range, and not many kiwis do or can. But if someone buys one I’d love to check it out against other new bikes I can’t afford 🙂

Dirt Action in Christchurch have a couple of PR7’s on the shop floor.
Very impressive, Only missing bit is luggage system. Around $16,000.
well worth a look
Are you going to take one for a test ride and give us a review?
Hey @Darren Stockman, you should tell everyone about your PR7, they are so rare in NZ I suspect a lot don’t know you can get them here. I’ve never seen one in the flesh.
I see Dasmoto are advertising them at $16,600 plus ORC. 165kg wet weight.

Be VERY CAREFUL if you are looking at an AJP. Mine (ajp pr3) was built with “cheap chinese parts” and has now completely seized. It has been sitting in the garage for the last few months and when I got it out to get it ready for a ride I discovered the following:
– Fuel tank has what looks like melted plastic in i, this residue has worked its way into the carb and locked it solid. I’m thinking something in the tank was plastic and it has melted?
– Carb is locked with the same gunk
– Fuel pickup, filter and fuel return are all blocked.
We stopped pulling the bike apart at that point and I’m working out my options. Purchased new in 2015 so I am a bit PO’d as it now appears to be worthless.
My recommendation is don’t touch them!
