BMW has applied for a patent for an electric front wheel hub to fit it’s motorcycles.
According to the patent application the electric hub motor is switchable on/off and will only operate at speeds under 5km/h, also it will work both forward and in reverse so should help greatly if your GS is stuck.
Pictures with the patent show a 2nd battery for the electric hub mounted under the tank.
This isn’t the first time BMW has filed a patent for a 2 wheel drive system, in 2015 they also submitted a patent application.
Also in 2015 accessories manufacturer Wunderlich showed a working BMW 1200 GS with electric hybrid front wheel.
